"In these times of opportunity to produce minerals and income from the land, we have the ability to do it on terms which protect this area. The alternative is so grave that I cannot contemplate our not doing so." - Jamie Burgess, Cora
The Upper Green River Valley is the largest publicly-owned
expanse of big game winter range in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem,
supporting some 100,000 animals.
The valley contains ancient migration routes for wildlife including
the longest big game migration remaining in the continental United
States.
BLM has leased most of the valley to massive
oil and gas development, much of it in the heart of crucial big
game winter range.
Part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the Upper Green River Valley
stretches from the Gros Ventre range south between the Wind River
and Wyoming mountain ranges.
Unless citizens voice support for protecting the valley, full scale oil
and gas development will cover much of the landscape and future generations
will no longer be able to experience the Valley’s open spaces, vast
wildlife herds, and pristine air and waters.
