"The minerals industry has been denied almost nothing – not even release from winter range stipulations." - Leo & Rosemary Benson, Bodurant
About Us
Our Mission
The Upper Green River Valley Coalition advocates responsible, sustainable management of the wildlife, waters, and air quality of Wyoming's Upper Green, a vital portion of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The Coalition believes that there is a place for natural gas development in the Upper Green as long as it safeguards the Valley’s abundant wildlife and air and water resources and protects local communities. With rapidly escalating development now occurring and more drilling planned in the future, the UGRVC is working to see that new management plans ensure development is done right and adequately protect key wildlife habitat and movement corridors.

The Upper Green River Valley Coalition recognizes that inappropriate private lands development also poses serious threats to wildlife habitat and the long term ecological health of the Valley. While the Coalition does not work on local land use planning and development, some of its member groups—as well as additional organizations and land trusts—are focused on this serious issue. Please contact us to get in touch with them.

Our Staff

Linda Baker, long-time Sublette County resident and environmental activist, serves as Upper Green Grassroots Coordinator.

Linda represents conservation interests during the Resource Management Plan (RMP) revision process being undertaken by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for its Pinedale Resource Area, which includes the Upper Green River Basin.

A strong local voice in this process is essential, as the revised RMP will guide the agency's land-management practices in the southern reaches of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem over the next 10 to 20 years. Linda focuses her efforts in four primary areas:

  • Protecting the world-class big-game animals that depend on the Upper Green River Basin for survival
  • Safeguarding air quality for area residents and protecting Class I airsheds over wilderness areas in the Wind River Range
  • Increasing public awareness of the Green River Basin's significance as an integral part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem
  • Promoting public participation in the RMP revision process
